![]() The Convention sets out to put forward, document and debate a diversity of approaches and road plans for adapting to, and making the most of, climate change. This includes its impact on the environment, industry, urban spaces, administration and the world’s citizens.
It aims to identify, in the most specific way possible, those opportunities for action and business that climate change offers these sectors and bodies, while continuing to investigate the current state of scientific debate on the subject. The three key addresses will be delivered by renowned world leaders in the global struggle against climate change: Rajendra Pachauri, chair of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate; Gro Harlem Brundtland, former Prime Minister of Norway and responsible for the UN report “Our Common Future”, more commonly known as the “Brundtland Report”, in which the concept of “Sustainable Development” was first laid out; and Juan Verde, a world expert on the environment and sustainability. These speakers will offer a global and practical vision of where we are and where we are headed, within the objective framework of this Convention to demonstrate that climate change demands a change in thinking, strategy and action, especially as far as systems of production are concerned. The round tables will give all participants the chance to speak. Carrying on along the lines that the debate has already established, revolving around the economy, production and sustainable development, these meetings will bring experts, researchers, institutional representatives, businessmen, advisors an analysts together around a single table, conceived more in terms of a reflective than a discursive space. On Thursday evening there will be the opportunity to participate in various approaches to climate change in the practical workshops. The “energetic” workshop will shed light on the new milestones and challenges in the area of renewable energy; the business meeting will provide a dynamic touchstone for businessmen who are interested in obtaining and providing specific services and products; the social workshop will bring together the visions for development of NGOs and consumer associations, through the Castilla-La Mancha Consumer Institute; and the workshop on a Network of Networks for Sustainable Development will serve as a meeting point for the authorities, technical professionals and civil servants working on this project. Furthermore, a tour of the province’s clean energy fields will be undertaken, to include thermo-solar, photovoltaic and wind energy sources. |
