| Welcome |
![]() The 1st Convention on Climate Change and Sustainability in Spain, which took place in February 2008, established itself as an exchange and meeting point at which, in the broadest and most generalised way possible, to publicise ideas, experiences and proposals relating to the main title of the Convention itself. With the 1st Convention having met with considerable success and achieved its main objectives, from the very outset the 2nd Convention on Climate Change and Sustainability in Spain adopts the reality set out by its predecessor. It consequently takes up the lion’s share of its thrust and main message, in terms of adaptability and utility, that this reality might involve for the various institutional, productive and social structures. And where, to put it one way, it reserves a place for the field of science and research – and unmistakeable presence in this 2nd Convention - the most relevant aspects concerning the debate and state of knowledge intrinsic to the phenomenon of climate change. With the slogan “it is both cheaper and better business to tackle climate change than not to do so” we have provided a frame of reference for this 2nd Convention on Climate Change and Sustainability in Spain. Both the public and private institutions that constitute the organising body of this important coming together: the Government of Castilla-La Mancha; the Provincial and Municipal Councils of Albacete; the University of Castilla-La Mancha; the CONAMA Foundation; the Confederation of Businessmen and the Federation of Associations for Young Businessmen in Castilla-La Mancha, and the Observatory for Sustainability in Spain, have made it our objective to demonstrate the economic and social opportunities that climate change holds for the 21st Century. It is clear that this approach gives significant shape and direction to the content of the 2nd Convention. It is its practical dimension which should attract, once again, those who represented its largest body of participants in 2008 – businesses and public administrations – while specific new subject areas are brought forward which should attract at least two new audiences: social citizens (the role associations may play) and communications professionals (how the way that climate change is presented in the media impacts on its public perception). The best way to get to know the Convention on Climate Change in Spain is by living it. We send out this invitation to come and join us, to make up part of this team of institutions, organisations, sponsors, collaborators, media and an infinite number of other people who will be attending the 2nd Convention, 10-12 February, 2010. Public personalities, speakers and top-level collaborators will be joining us for this 2nd Convention. Showing your support for the Convention constitutes an investment in the recuperation of our planet, in the creation, today, of a possible future, and in the development of a sustainable culture. Will you join us? The Organising Committee
